“Where are you?” Gabriel asked only a few feet away from him. Senias felt guilty because he was still full of dread.

“My mind? It’s on everything at once. We’re finally here. We’ve never made it this far. Usually a catastrophe happens, and everything stops.”

“Well, he tried, didn’t he? We can’t prove it, but, the doppelgangers, the inconvenient war through the packlands, the arrests, the murders, my taking, the attempt on Samantha’s life, the destruction of Clan Falias; I’m convinced all of it is related to Ezekiel Skinner. He doesn’t want us to free your people.”

“It came close to succeeding.”

“It didn’t.” Gabriel stood before him. “It didn’t stop us. It strengthened us. We’ll get through all of this. You’ll see. I told you when we spoke about it in the Crimson Library. I told you, I aimed to free the dragons from the blacklist, and it’s about to happen, Senias.”

Senias swallowed and nodded. He believed Gabriel. He believed in Gabriel Kennedy and his promise. Taking his kindred’s hand, he walked with him out to the back patio and then turned to face him when he felt a tug.

“You do believe me? You do believe this is going to happen?” Gabriel held Sen’s hand and looked into his eyes.

“I believe this is going to happen, but I’m not going to underestimate Skinner’s need to throw wrenches in every direction. We just need to keep Skinner busy long enough to give you the time you need.”

“True, but I need you to be safe, Sen.”

“Safe? Isn’t that relative? Or is the word subjective?” Senias smirked before winking.
